About Buckle to Drive
Available Buckle to Drive reminds you to buckle your seat belt before driving by preventing your vehicle from being shifted out of PARK until the driver’s seat belt is buckled.
How It Works
To help keep you safe† on the road, Buckle to Drive will not shift out of PARK when the driver’s seat belt is unbuckled. To shift into DRIVE, buckle your seat belt. After 20 seconds, this feature will time out and you’ll be able to shift out of PARK regardless of whether the seat belt is buckled.
Buckle to Drive activates each time you turn your vehicle on.
Some vehicles feature Buckle to Drive as part of the Teen Driver mode, while others offer Buckle to Drive as both a standalone feature and Teen Driver feature.
If you’re unable to shift out of PARK when the driver’s seat is unbuckled, your vehicle is equipped† with Buckle to Drive. If so, you’ll see a message in your Driver Information Centre (DIC) that says “Buckle Seat Belt to Shift” and you will hear a chime. That message will disappear when the feature times out after 20 seconds.
If you can turn Buckle to Drive on or off in the Settings menu of your vehicle’s infotainment system, you have Buckle to Drive as a standalone feature. If Buckle to Drive is an option in the Teen Driver section of the Settings menu, your vehicle is equipped with Buckle to Drive as part of the Teen Driver mode.
Buckle to Drive is on when Teen Driver is on. To disable Buckle to Drive, turn Teen Driver off. Some vehicles allow Buckle to Drive to be turned off through the Settings Menu.
Buckle to Drive only affects the driver’s seat belt.
